Dead Bird

This is from the paint-like-a-maniac-for-three-hours-from-life series. Feathers, fur and water all are difficult & seductive materials. Perhaps I'll try butterfly wings this summer--they seem to be made out of beautifully colored dust that hovers together on patterned latticework.

Alas! It does look like life has fled!

This made me think of a drawing of a dead mouse which I saw in a book of works containing WG Sebald's writing and an artist's drawings. Unfortunately, my memory being what it is, I can't remember the name of the artist.

It was Jan Peter Tripp. I've remembered.
